The Chocolate portuguese custard tart recipe is for those who love pasteis de nata but also love chocolate.

It’s not because pastel de nata isn’t already delicious. We all know it is. Still, if we love this cake or sweet, there is no reason not to try this variation, which is also delicious.

This recipe was designed for 6 pieces and has some variations in relation to the traditional custard tart recipe, Once you add a new ingredient, you need to make some adjustments so that everything is perfect.

Ingredients for the chocolate portuguese custard tart recipe

  • 2 deciliters of semi-skimmed milk

  • 200 grams of sugar

  • 6 egg yolks

  • 500 grams of puff pastry, homemade or pre-prepared.

  • 150 grams of chocolate bar

  • One or two lemon peels, depending on taste

  • 4 teaspoons of cornstarch

  • Butter and flour for greasing

Preparation

Before starting, turn on the oven at 240º.

  1. Using a kitchen roll, stretch the dough.
  2. Then make a roll or cylinder with the dough, pressing it.
  3. Once you have the shape you want, you can cut it into small pieces, between 1.5 and 2 centimeters wide, depending on whether you prefer a thicker or thinner dough.
  4. Grease the molds with butter, place a piece of dough in each one and gently spread the dough with your fingers, pushing the excess to the top, where the dough should become thicker (at the edge).< /li>
  5. Reserve the molds on an aluminum tray.
  6. Add the milk, 100 grams of sugar and the chocolate broken into pieces. Put the pan on the fire and stir while the mixture melts.
  7. After the mixture is homogeneous, turn off the heat and let it cool.
  8. In a separate container, combine the egg yolks with the cornstarch and the remaining one hundred grams of sugar.
  9. After it is well mixed, return the pan with the milk and chocolate to the heat and add the mixture of egg yolks, cornstarch and sugar. While the mixture thickens, keep stirring.
  10. Add the lemon zest and stir a little more.
  11. Finally, and we are almost at the end of the pastel de nata with chocolate recipe, distribute the contents between the molds and bake them for 15 minutes. Let the custard tarts brown but take them out before they burst, so they don’t shrivel too much as they cool.

Suggestions:

If you have children at home, make sure the custard tarts are not excessively hot, so that no one gets burned.

If you like cinnamon, sprinkle some of it on your custard tart and wash it down with a good coffee.
